Transportation Security Technology Market to see Huge Growth by 2029

The global transportation security technology market is anticipated to grow at a considerable CAGR of 7.8% during the forecast period. Growing integration of technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), internet of things (IoT), and 5G are  drastically transforming the public transportation, in terms of efficiency, flexibility, and cost-effectiveness. The growing implementation of automation, IoT,  digital tools for transportation security,  remote accessing and controlling transportation security-related activities is driving the adoption of global transportation security technology on new and existing means of transportation. Technologies, such as video surveillance and voice recognition, have now been deployed across several transportation facilities for surveillance and identification. For instance, in February  2020, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has purchased 100 additional L3Harris Technologies ProVision® 2 passenger screening systems that will be deployed at airports throughout the US. The ProVision 2 system is a scanner that uses software to screen passengers at the checkpoint.

Further, various security technologies, such as biometric or access controls, automated 3-D and X-ray scanning for passengers and luggage, and others, have been increasingly adopted by the government to ensure the safety of passengers. For instance, in January 2022, Iris ID added iris and facial recognition products  to its biometric ID authentication readers  to speed up travel at airports and border crossings. The two products

the iCAM D2000 and the IrisBar (OU60B), are compact and touchless readers that merge iris biometrics and facial identification technology with the intent of being used at travel hubs such as airports and border crossings. Apart from this, in September 2022, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) added threat detection company Smiths Detection’s Hi-Scan 6040 CTiX x-ray scanner to its checkpoint property screening system (CPSS) mid-size qualified products list (QPL). The TSA’s CPSS program is designed to replace the previous generation of x-ray scanners at airports across the US with the latest computed tomography (CT) x-ray scanning technology. Hi-Scan 6040 CTiX x-ray scanner is a computed tomography (CT) x-ray scanner producing high-resolution volumetric 3D images for quicker baggage assessment, using both visual operator inspection and automated object recognition, leading to reduced false-alarm rates. The scanner enables electronics and liquids to remain in bags, speeding up passenger throughput, improving security and reducing touchpoints.
