Yongsung Kim has been appointed Head of Global Sales & Distribution at Ola Electric, with responsibility for India and international markets.
Yongsung, a 35-year Hyundai Motor and Kia veteran, brings global automotive sales expertise from North America, Europe, the United Kingdom, the Middle East, Africa, ASEAN, Asia Pacific, and, of course, India, where he spent many years building Hyundai Motor and then Kia’s market-leading presence in India.
As Ola Electric prepares to launch the first electric scooter across India and various foreign markets, including Europe and the United Kingdom, Latin America, Australia, New Zealand, and Southeast Asia, Yongsung will lead both, the domestic and international distribution and go-to-market strategies.
“I am delighted to have Yongsung join our team at Ola Electric and look forward to working with him as we introduce our range of electric products around the world,” Bhavish Aggarwal, Chairman and CEO, Ola, said in welcoming Y S Kim. “His sales, distribution, and service experience will be crucial to our global expansion and the delivery of our mature, creative electric products to our customers,” added Bhavish.
“I am very excited to join Ola Electric and its team in developing a winning strategy for India and global sales for the Ola Scooter and its other EV products. With this new assignment, I’m also returning to India, where I spent many years in the sales teams of Hyundai Motors and Kia, so it’s doubly rewarding for me and a fantastic opportunity to collaborate on putting India on the global EV map,” said Y S Kim.
Ola’s forthcoming electric two-wheeler is a leapfrog product with many in-house inventions, including the engine, battery, and vehicle computer, all of which were developed by the company. The company’s first electric scooter has the highest range and performance in the industry. The electric two-wheeler is moderately priced to make it affordable to all, and it will aid India’s transition to sustainable mobility.
The Ola Scooter has already received several accolades, including the IHS Markit Innovation Award at CES and the German Design Award. It has a beautiful design, outstanding performance, and industry-first smart features, that fully reimagine the scooter experience for customers in India and around the world.
Ola is constructing the Ola Futurefactory at rapid pace to produce the scooter, with the first step scheduled to be operational this summer, and the entire factory will be ready by next year. The Ola Futurefactory, which will be built over 500 acres and have a 10-million annual production, will be the world’s largest two-wheeler plant, generating a vehicle every two seconds at full capacity. It will be the most advanced in the world, with over 3000 robots powered by Ola’s patented AI, and the greenest, with 100 acres of forest on site and a zero-carbon operation.
