In July 2021, Baidu Inc. launched its Apollo Go robotaxi service pilot project in Guangzhou. The service in Guangzhou Science City operates on predetermined routes that take its robotaxis past schools, hospitals, parks, hotels and office buildings, with more than 200 designated spots where the vehicles can pick up and drop off passengers. The launch is an extension of a Baidu’s partnership with the Huangpu district government that has allowed it to operate a fleet of five types of autonomous vehicles used for applications including passenger transportation between selected destinations, street cleaning and mobile retailing in the city.
