On 15th Feb, as per the report of UK times, Jaguar Land Rover has taken a major step by contributing to the net-zero-emission and promised to make only battery-electric cars for its jaguar brand from 2025. For the time being, its stablemate Land Rover brand will have its all-electric versions in 2024 along with six new models in the next five years. This new electrification strategy, to become an electric brand made by the Jaguar will aspire its fortune even after years of generating the highest sales among all the top companies.
Land Rover sustains its leading position among Luxury SUV makers through its three families of range rover, Discovery, and Defender. By 2030, Jaguar Land Rover will sell 60% of its cars in purely electric mode, and all other Jaguar models will be available in all-electric variants by the end of the decade. CEO of Jaguar, Thierry Bollore during his announcement said “Together, we can design an even more sustainable and positive impact on the world around us”. In line with this, he also said, “We aim to achieve net-zero carbon emissions across our products, operations, and supply chain by 2039”. The Jaguar is owned by the Indian Tata Motors company to generate more revenue by “profit-over-volume”.
The company is also working on hydrogen fuel-cell vehicles and plans to start road-testing prototypes within a year. Jaguar’s CEO says around $48.7 million will be spent every year on electrification and data-centric technologies and the development of connected services to enlarge the customer experience. Currently, the company has only one model of electric vehicle Jaguar I-Pace that won the World car of the year award in 2019. The two land Rover platforms, Modular Longitudinal Architecture (MLA) and Electric Modular Architecture will underpin both battery electric vehicle and hybrid vehicle, while the Jaguar platform will fully be dedicated for battery-electric type vehicle only.
