Israeli Startup StoreDot Launches ‘5-Minute Charge’ EV Battery

Israel-based StoreDot, a leading company in the field of battery technology, has announced the availability of its first-generation ‘5-minute charge’ battery. StoreDot has released its first production batch of samples, which is aimed at showcasing the technology to potential Electric Vehicles (EVs) manufacturers and industry partners. The battery with the ‘From flat battery to full charge in just five minutes’ feature can beat the filling time of a standard car at the fuel pump.

The StoreDot has achieved a significant milestone to eliminate the charging anxiety of electric vehicles by demonstrating the commercial viability of extremely fast charging (XFC) batteries for the first time via a small form-factor battery cell. The first-generation battery was used to demonstrate the full charge of a two-wheeled electric vehicle in just five minutes. It can also offer ultra-fast charging to several other industries such as consumer electronics or commercial heavy drones.

This XFC battery cell demonstrates to EV Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs), the successful replacement of graphite in the battery cell anode using metalloid Nanoparticles, which will eliminate issues related to product safety, battery swelling, and battery cycle life. Interestingly, unlike other options which need significant capital investment in manufacturing similar equipment, StoreDot’s XFC batteries are designed to be manufactured on existing lithium-ion production lines.

The CEO of StoreDot, Dr. Myersdorf believes that this milestone is just the beginning and, his firm is on the cusp of bringing the revolution in the EV that can remove the critical battier to mass adoption of EVs by providing a commercially viable product that is scalable for mass production. This paves the way for the launch of second-generation, silicon-dominant anode prototype batteries for EVs by harnessing new cell designs and innovative materials.
