Indian Aviation Sector Showing Positive Signs, But It’s Still in the Tricky Phase: Airbus President India

After being in a complete shutdown during the coronavirus last year, the Indian Aviation Sector started showing positive signs, but it is still in the middle of difficult situations. Indian Airlines are currently carrying 60% of the total pre-COVID-19 domestic passenger and it is better than most of the countries in the world Said “Remi Maillard” President and Managing Director, AIRBUS India and South Asia.

Airbus has been observing positive signs such as demand for leisure travel, it is going better but, we are far away from being in a continuous and safe situation, He noted.

Maillard said International traffic is still weak in India as all the scheduled domestic and international flights were suspended from 25 March 2020 during Coronavirus lockdown, whereas domestic flights were suspended only for two months till May 24, 2020, but international flight keeps on remain suspended expect special International flights of around 24 countries, these flights have been permitted since May last year under Vande Bharat Mission and air bubble arrangements formed.

Indian Airlines got drastically affected by the economic crisis caused by Coronavirus. Most of the airlines took very serious measures for surviving such as cost cuts, pay cuts, and firing the employees.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced that Gujarat International Finance Tec (GIFT) aircraft leasing companies based out in Gandhinagar the city of Gujarat would get tax relief on rental income earned and capital gains. It is a big step taken by the government as there are no major aircraft leasing companies that are based in India and the majority of the aircraft fleet with Indian carriers were leased from foreign companies that would cost us in US dollars and the profitability used to get drastically affected because of this reason, Said by Maillard.
