Garnier aims to stop using virgin plastic for packaging by 2025

Garnier, the cosmetics pioneer on Monday stated that it aims to stop using virgin plastic for all packaging by 2025. Otherwise, its production units and factories will be neutral by 2025, using renewable energy. Garnier is a mass-market based cosmetic product of French cosmetics company L’Oreal. The company will use recyclable, reusable or compostable materials for all packaging, which will store 37,000 tonnes of plastic annually, under its sustainability programme – Garnier Green Beauty.

In addition, from 2022, all plant-based and renewable ingredients used by the company for its products will be firmly available. “We promise to reduce our impact on the world and revitalize a sustainable future. It will take time, but Green Beauty will transform Garnier, and we hope that the beauty industry as a whole”, said Garnier Global Brand President Adrien Koskas. Garnier India General Manager Zeenia Bastani said, “Under the initiative, the company also works with its suppliers and communities. It works with “Plastics For Change” to help with the social impact of plastic pollution”.

Through this association, Garnier will support the full development of waste collection communities in India. “Plastics for Change” supports children’s education, healthcare, nutrition, financial literacy and empowerment for girls and women. By 2025, Garnier will empower 800 communities around the world as part of its solidarity sourcing programme. “The Garnier Green Beauty initiative is our journey towards contributing to a better and more sustainable planet, and we are building a community of our customers and supporters who can take this journey with us”, said L’Oreal India Director of Consumer Products Division Pankaj Sharma.
