As per the New York Times report, The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has given permission to Moderna to increase the number of Covid 19 vaccine doses per vial from 10 to 14. In a discussion with Fox News, Moderna told about its ongoing discussion to FDA about “potential increase in filled volumes, thus enabling extraction of additional doses from each vial delivered. To maximize opportunities and resources, and to deliver more doses for Covid 19 vaccine, Moderna has proposed to fill vials with 15 doses of vaccine, which were, earlier filled with 10 doses. An FDA spokesperson, told Fox News that there must be a request raised by the company to make any changes to the Emergency use Authorization and the change should be authorized by granting a letter of authorization and any changes made should be posted on FDA’s website. Moderna is currently providing half of America’s vaccine supply and is contracted to supply doses of around 300 million to the US and about 341.5 million doses to countries around the world. By scaling its manufacturing capacity, Moderna has come up with many variants for Covid 19 and is also distributing vaccine throughout the country.
The US president Joe Biden said that by the end of July, the US would be able to deliver more than 600 million doses of the Covid 19 vaccine, which would be enough to vaccinate almost every American citizen. On Thursday, at the National Institute of Health, Biden said that the US government has signed a contract for 100 million more vaccines separately for both, Moderna and Pfizer. In line with this, he said “We’re also able to move up the delivery dates with an additional 200 million vaccines to the end of July, faster than we expected.”
