Dust reduction systems or dust removal systems are used in several digital cameras to remove dust from image sensors. Whenever the lens changes, dust can enter the camera body and settle on the image sensor.Dust can be generated by internal moving parts or moved by air currents within the camera. Some systems vibrate at very high frequencies between 100 Hertz and 50 kilohertz to remove or clean the sensor.This type of system moves real sensors to reduce dust. It vibrates the actual sensor around 100Hz. The amount of movement or sensor movement is greater than the high frequency filter vibration type. A crude analogy to comparing piezoelectric crystal filter methods is something like hitting or tapping a sensor to replace contaminants,whereas piezoelectric vibrates the filter to exfoliate particles. Sensors can also use negatively charged surface coatings to reduce static and repel negatively charged particles.
