On Tuesday, Amazon, one of the E-commerce players declared that the company plans to start manufacturing unit of Amazon devices in India. This is considered as a step forward by the company towards commitment to the Government of India in ‘Make in India’ for Atmanirbhar Bharat as it is Amazon’s first manufacturing line in India.
Amazon is expected to start production later in the year by starting off its manufacturing by contracting with Cloud Network Technology, which is considered as the subsidiary of Foxconn in Chennai. In order to produce thousands of fire TV sticks devices year-over-year, the device manufacturing programme will be started. Continuous evaluation of scaling capacity by Amazon will be done to additional cities and marketplaces for catering the demands of customers in the country.
Amit Agarwal who is global senior vice president and country leader for Amazon India, on Tuesday briefed Minister for Communications, Electronics & Information Technology and Law & justice Mr. Ravi Shankar Prasad regarding the details of Amazon’s Initiative in the country. Ravi Shankar Prasad expressed that it’s a welcome move by Amazon to set up a manufacturing line in India in Chennai. India is considered as destination for attractive investment and is assured to become a prime player in the global supply chain in product industry of electronics and IT. This decision would strengthen the capacity of domestic production and will lead to creation of more job opportunities.
Amazon has driven millions of Dollars in India as an investment across logistics operations, e-commerce and payment modes. Over 22,000 neighborhood stores registered across India are gathering their presence in online segment and acting as pick-up points and experience centres for e-commerce through their earning potential. Amit Agarwal also stated that the company will invest $1 billion to support small and medium businesses along with jobs around 1 million, additionally by 2025.
