Sodium-sulfur (NaS) batteries are a type of molten salt battery composed of liquid sodium (Na) and sulfur (S). This type of battery has high energy density, high charge/discharge efficiency, long service life and is made of inexpensive materials. Operating temperatures of 300 to 350 °C and the very corrosive properties of sodium polysulfide make it suitable primarily for stationary energy storage applications. The larger the cell, the more economical it is. Because NaS batteries can store large amounts of energy, they consist of a number of connected cells.
