Houthis Strike Saudi Airport, Airplane Catches Fire

On Wednesday, a civilian plane at Saudi’s Abha International Airport was attacked  by Yemen’s Houthi rebels, using 4 bomb-laden drones. The blaze was brought under control by the Firefighters and there were no casualties reported. Soon after the attack, Houthis claimed responsibility for the same and a military spokesman Yehia Sareai said that the attacking was an answer to the brutal siege and aerial bombardment of their country Yemen. Sareai added that the airport was considered as a military but not a civilian target.

Turki bin Saleh Al-Maliki, Saudi spokesperson who is a member of Department of Plans and Operations said that the forces intercepted two bomb-laden drones and that the attack was a deliberate attempt by the Houthis to target civilians in the southern region of the country.

It came into view that there were scorch marks on the metal, and the drone had perforated through the plane’s fuselage. State-owned  Al-Ekhbariya television said that the strike threatens to escalate Yemen’s grinding war causing a civilian plane in passageway to catch fire.

Earlier this week, the US president Joe Biden called  for an end to the war in Yemen through a political solution and named the US special Envoy Timothy A. Lenderking, a veteran diplomat, for Yemen’s peace. The moves made by Biden were welcomed by both Yemini Government and Saudi Arabia’s Government.
