Indian Government Refutes Claims on 5G Technology, Is Linked to an Increase in Covid Incidents

The Central Government has debunked a conspiracy theory about the second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic that was circulating on social media sites. A message alleging that 5G testing is to blame for the sudden increase in coronavirus cases in the country has been circulating.

“It has come to the attention of the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), Ministry of Communications that many false messages are being circulated on various social media sites alleging that the second wave of coronavirus has been triggered by the testing of the 5G cell towers,” the Department of Telecommunications said in a statement.

The Department of Telecommunication claims that these communications are misleading and incorrect. The general public is hereby told that there is no connection between 5G technology and the spread of Covid-19, and they are urged not to be misled by false information and rumours spread in this matter.

The message claiming that 5G trials are to blame for the spread of Covid cases is false. The arguments that 5G technology is linked to the Covid-19 pandemic are unfounded and unsupported by science. Furthermore, it has been confirmed that no 5G network testing has yet begun in India. As a result, the argument that 5G trials or networks are causing coronavirus in India is unfounded and misleading, according to the Department of Telecommunication

The audio message had previously been posted on the Press Information Bureau Fact Check team’s official Twitter account. “According to an audio message, the 5G network is being tested in the United States, and people are dying as a result. This assertion is false. Please don’t spread misinformation by forwarding such fake messages ” PIB sent out a tweet.

Mobile towers emit non-ionizing radio frequencies with extremely low power levels that are incapable of harming living cells, including humans. According to the statement, the Department of Telecommunication has set exposure limits for the Radio Frequency Field (i.e. Base Station Emissions) that are ten times stricter than the safe limits set by the International Commission on Non-Ionizing Radiation Protection (ICNIRP) and recommended by the WHO.

TSPs must strictly adhere to these defined norms, and the Department of Telecommunication has a well-structured mechanism in place to ensure that they do. Any citizen concerned about a cell tower emitting radio waves in excess of the department’s safe limit can request EMF measurements/testing via the Tarang Sanchar portal at https://tarangsanchar.gov.in/emfportal.

To assuage public concern about the health effects of EMF emissions from cell towers, the Department of Telecommunication has taken several measures to raise public awareness about EMF radiation, including a nationwide awareness campaign, the distribution of pamphlets/information brochures on various topics related to EMF, and the publication of comprehensive information on EMF-related issues on the Department of Telecommunication’s website. newspaper ads, and the introduction of the Tarang Sanchar portal. The Department of Telecommunication’s field units have also been holding public awareness activities to raise awareness of the scientific evidence about the health effects of EMF pollution from cell towers.
