As the climate is always evolving and natural disasters have always existed. Yesterday, India witnessed a disaster when a glacier broke in Uttarakhand’s Chamoli district and triggered a snow slide with massive flooding of Alaknanda and Dhauliganga rivers.
Many villages were shifted due to the occurrence of floods. Uttarakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat has announced a compensation of 4 lakhs for the families of those who have lost their lives, and an extra amount of 2 lakhs will be compensated to the families, from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund, with 50,000 for those with serious injuries, and said around 203 people are missing including 11 dead bodies recovered as of now. We weren’t aware of a subsidiary company’s project Tapovan till yesterday.
The police officials, army, ITBP, all are putting their best efforts to control the situation. The national and state disaster response forces are also working hard on the spot.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that I am constantly monitoring the situation and the entire nation stands with Uttarakhand and the nation prays for everyone’s safety there. The medical team immediately rushed to sites that have been affected. A hospital of 30-bed has been prepared for treatment at Joshimath, and hospitals in different locations including Srinagar, Rishikesh, Jolly Grant, and Dehradun are on standby. At one of the tunnels near Tapovan dam, the rescue operation is underway for saving the lives of at least 30 people, while 12 people have been successfully rescued from another tunnel as per Vivek Panday, Indo-Tibetan Border Police.
