In October 2020, the government of Canada announced to allocate $1.5 billion for accelerating the adoption of zero-emission buses and charging infrastructure. The fund is a part of a larger three-year, $10-billion ‘Growth Plan’ of the clean energy projects. Moreover, in the same month, the Canadian Urban Transit Research and Innovation Consortium (CUTRIC) announced to invest $999,000 in eCamion, an Ontario-based energy storage solution company. The funds will be used for the development of electric bus charging system.
Apart from this, the Government of Canada in December 2020 announced its plan for the City of Ottawa to invest $9.3 million, including the purchase of four long-range 40-foot battery-electric buses, along with the necessary supporting infrastructure. With such initiatives and investments, the government aims to bring 5,000 electric buses out on Canadian roads in the next few years.
