In July of this year, Ola Electric plans to launch its electric scooter in the Indian market, and is also developing a ‘Hypercharge Network’, that will include one lakh charging stations throughout 400 towns. The company is yet to disclose the details like pricing of the e-scooter. For Ola scooters to be affordable to buyers in India, the price will be aggressive. Also, the company plans to export to external markets. The company said first e-scooter is easy to carry and can be charged anywhere with a seamless design.
“The charging network will be capable of charging 50% of the Ola Scooter battery in 18 minutes for a 75 km range. Last year, Ola announced an investment of RS 2 400 crores, which initially will have an annual capacity of 2 million units across 500 acres, to set up its first electric scooter in Tamil Nadu. A strong charging network is required to get electric vehicles adopted. Today, the charging network is one of our main infrastructure loopholes. We will be building more than 1.00,000 charge points in the framework of this network, and this will be the biggest fast-charging network for two-wheelers in 400 cities and towns”, said Nishit Jain, Managing Director of Ola Electric.
The Ola Scooter comes with a home charger, which needs not to be installed. The charging stations of Ola are deployed as stand-alone towers and in popular venues, like malls, IT parks, office buildings, and cafes. Also, the customers can track recharge advances in real-time on the Ola Electric app, and pay the recharge amount seamlessly via the app. The Ola Scooter includes a home charger, which doesn’t have to be installed and allows customers to charge their vehicles at home, with a regular wall socket to charge.
“The company has managed supply limitations better as it constructs certain components on its own and invests to set up charging infrastructure. However, the Hypercharge Network will not be compatible to use other charges networks but will only be owned by Ola’s EVs. As things change over the next few weeks, but from this moment on, we unable to foresee any significant disorder in our implementation of the charging network or the factory, for the investment our partners are included”, said Bhavish Aggarwal, Co-Founder of Ola Cabs.
“Ola’s Hypercharge has a 12-kilowatt capacity and is dedicated to two-wheel electricity. To charge your vehicle full capacity will still take less than one hour and this type of charging speed and the access that we build with so many points will remove the anxiety that you have an electric vehicle. The battery will start in sync with our scooters, and our charging network will be there before it is launched by any city, we launch our scooters”, added Nishit Jain.
Ola plans to bring many such designs and software innovations to its whole two-wheel product range. Ola Electric is supported by SoftBank, plans to provide all of its two-wheel customers with charging solutions.
