Twitter Will Soon Allow Users To Use Their Security Key As Their Sole Form Of Two-Factor Authentication

Twitter, an American microblogging and social networking site, has announced a new update that will soon enable users to use security keys as their sole method of authentication as well as multiple security keys per account rather than just one.

Users usually use a security key to sign in to their Twitter accounts and even you should have another 2FA form activated as a backup, such as an authenticator app or SMS codes. The Security keys physical that bind to your device via USB or Bluetooth are the most secure way to protect an account online according to the Verge while authentication apps like Google authenticator are safer than SMS codes for 2FA. Users are not required to enter a code that could be intercepted by a malicious third party.

When you add the key to your computer, your browser issues a challenge, which the key cryptographically signs and verifies your identity. Another advantage of this change is that users will no longer be needed to send additional personal information to Twitter, such as a phone number, in order to log in to their accounts. As a result, the users can rest assured that their privacy is protected.

Twitter announced on Monday that it will allow multiple security keys on a single account until today, it only allowed one key per account in addition to the other 2FA methods, according to the Verge. As users log in to Twitter’s mobile apps in December, the company revealed that security keys for 2FA enabled accounts will be supported.
